Privacy Policy
Effective September 13, 2026 · Operated by Jared Hirt
Desk Tactics is a social strategy game for adults aged 18 and older, operated by Jared Hirt. This policy covers our website and online game, including desktactics.hirt.ca and any official Desk Tactics domain displaying this policy.
Information we collect and why
- Account information: your email, account identifier, chosen name, and sign-in provider. Google sign-in can supply your Google name and profile image to Firebase Authentication. Firebase handles passwords and authentication credentials; passwords are not shown to other players or stored in game documents.
- Game information: player names, game membership, positions, hearts, AP, jury votes, host settings, game outcomes, and recent actions. We use this to run games, enforce rules, and show live updates.
- Account and security records: your confirmation that you are 18 or older, policy versions and acceptance time, request identifiers, and rate-limit records. These help document agreement, prevent duplicate actions, and protect the service. We do not ask for your date of birth.
- Technical information: Cloudflare and Google/Firebase process information such as IP addresses, request times, browser/device information, and errors to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- Support correspondence: information you send when asking for help or exercising privacy rights.
What other people can see
Members of your game can see its player names, game identifiers, board state, AP, hearts, current jury votes, and recent activity. Jury votes are not secret ballots. Game hosts can change schedules and remove players. We do not display your email or Google profile image in the game. Use a nickname and avoid sensitive information in names. Anyone with an invite code can join an open lobby until it fills or starts; share codes carefully. Other members may take screenshots or share information outside the service.
Browser storage and Analytics
Practice games are saved in local storage on your browser, not as shared Firebase games. Reset practice or clear this site’s browser data to remove that local state. Firebase uses browser storage to maintain your sign-in. Clearing browser data does not delete your online account or games.
This version does not load Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or advertising cookies. A Google Analytics property is linked to the Firebase project, but the website does not initialize Analytics or send gameplay analytics events. Essential hosting, authentication, and security processing still occurs. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Service providers and location
We use Cloudflare for website delivery and security, and Google/Firebase for authentication, database storage, and game functions. The game database and functions are configured in the United States (us-central1); these providers may also process information in other countries where they operate. Information may be subject to those countries’ laws. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy and Firebase’s privacy information.
Jared Hirt accesses information when needed to operate the game or answer requests. We may disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to investigate abuse and protect users or the service. Any disclosure will be limited to what is needed.
Retention and deletion
Account and agreement records remain while your account is active. Game records remain available for ongoing play and game history until removed; there is currently no automatic game-history expiry. The activity feed contains at most 40 recent events per game. Duplicate-request receipts are scheduled for deletion after seven days, subject to Firebase’s deletion processing. Provider logs and backups follow their configured retention cycles.
You may request deletion at any time. We remove or anonymize information we no longer need, while retaining limited records if necessary for legal obligations, security, or resolving a dispute. We will explain any applicable exception. Removing you from a game is not an account-deletion request, and previously displayed activity may remain in its recent history.
Your choices and privacy requests
Email jaredhirt@gmail.com to request access, a copy, correction, or deletion of your personal information, withdraw consent, or raise a concern. Send the request from your account email when possible; we may ask for proportionate identity verification. Do not send your password. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and explain any limits. Deleting an account can end or disrupt games it hosts. You may also complain to the privacy regulator responsible for your jurisdiction.
Security and adults-only use
We use encrypted connections, authenticated server operations, and member-only database access. No service can guarantee complete security. This service is not intended for anyone under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor has created an account so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
Changes
We will update the effective date when this policy changes and provide notice of material changes. If a new use requires consent, we will ask before starting it.
